The terminal (past) suffix {-DỊ} in Turkish can represent not only a past event but also one that is going to happen immediately after the reference time, under certain conditions. In this paper, the understudied latter use of this suffix is referred to as “non-past {-DỊ}”. I provide a description and analysis of the non-past usage of {-DỊ}, revealing the morphosyntactic and contextual conditions under which the non-past reading arises. Furthermore, I argue that non-past {-DỊ} is best analyzed as a modal expression within the conceptual framework of modality proposed by Narrog (2012). Thus, this paper calls for reconsidering the position of {-DỊ} in the Turkish TAM system.
