This article examines some unclear animal denominations in the Uyghur documents con¬cerning the postal system of the Mongol Empire. The investigation focuses, on two ex¬pressions ulag and boguz at, but a number of other terms are analysed too. Alongside philological analysis of the documents, data from earlier sources and modern language usage are also used.
