One of the photographs kept by the late Japanese scholar Haneda Toru presents a relatively well-preserved Manichaean text in Old Uyghur script. It shows the beginning of the text, and the first line contains the title in Middle Persian, Āfrīd ē šahriyār-i rōšnān, which might be translated as ‘You are the one who is praised, the Ruler of Light’. The text is of the same character as some Old Uyghur Manichaean fragments kept in the Berlin Turfan collection and British Library in London, which were first edited by Peter Zieme and later by Larry Clark. However, it shows clear divergences from the Berlin and London fragments with regard to the structure and names of deities; it also shows interesting linguistic features.
